What to bring in your hydration jacket during a race

PEAK FIRST AID X 6AM

Do you run with a hydration jacket? Have you considered adding first aid equipment? Peak First Aid offers you a list of the basics to bring with you.

Running is an inclusive physical activity that can be practiced by the majority of people. It is one of the most practiced physical activities in Canada. On the other hand, like all outdoor activities, it involves the risk of injury. This is why, when possible, we suggest having certain first aid items with you.

What are electrolytes used for?

PEAK FIRST AID

We've all heard, at some point, that electrolytes are important during physical activity. However, what exactly are they?

Electrolytes are minerals of different types that essentially conduct electricity in our body. When in contact with water, they transform into a positive or negative charge to help electrical current pass to muscle cells. 💪🏼

What can this electric current be used for? It is this electrical current that allows all the muscles in our body to contract. For example, a balanced potassium level allows our heart to beat regularly and efficiently. A lack of potassium could cause arrhythmias, leading to discomfort.

So the next time you go out for a long run or bike ride, consider including your electrolytes in your starter kit. They will be very useful to you!

The importance of the PFD

PEAK FIRST AID X TAIGA BOARD

The arrival of cold temperatures does not necessarily indicate the end of the SUP season. There's always time to enjoy the sunshine and fall colors. One way to make the most of it is to adjust our equipment accordingly.

A personal flotation device (PFD) adapted to our needs can be an effective way to ensure our safety on the water. Unlike the life jacket, the PFD can come in several colors, formats, and have different functions. For example, a PFD covering the entire torso can help keep your body warm when falling into cold water.

Make sure you always have your PFD with you, no matter the conditions. It doesn’t just prevent drowning.

Good outing
